Karats and colors for every price point
Gold is priced by weight and fineness, so karat is the first lever on a chain’s retail price. We make chains in four karats for the U.S. market:
- 10K (417): the most accessible way to offer real gold, and a practical entry tier for fashion-led and value-focused stores.
- 14K (585): the benchmark of American fine jewelry and the core of most chain programs.
- 18K (750): a richer color and a clear premium tier for boutiques and higher-end cases.
- 21K (875): for retailers whose customers prefer the deep color of high-karat gold.
Chains are available in yellow, white and rose gold; our team confirms the karats and colors offered for each style and width. Offering one style in two karats, or in solid and hollow construction, builds a clear price ladder without adding designs to your range.
Construction and finish by style
| Style | Solid | Hollow | Diamond-cut |
|---|
| Curb | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Rope | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Cable | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Rolo | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Figaro | Yes | – | Yes |
| Singapore | Yes | – | Yes |
| Foxtail | Yes | – | Yes |
| Bismark | Yes | – | Yes |
Diamond-cut chains are made solid; hollow chains are supplied with a polished finish. For Miami Cuban, franco, box and herringbone chains, construction and finish options are confirmed with each quote.
Solid or hollow, and how to label it
In a hollow chain, each link is formed from thin-walled gold tube instead of solid wire. It looks the same in the case but uses less gold, so a wide curb or rope reaches a lower price. We make cable, curb, rope and rolo chains hollow in 10K, 14K, 18K and 21K; figaro, Singapore, foxtail and Bismark chains are made solid only.
Hollow is a different product, not a lesser one, but it needs honest labeling. The FTC Jewelry Guides note that calling a hollow-center product simply “gold” may mislead consumers unless the hollow center is disclosed, and that such pieces should not be described as “solid” (16 CFR 23.3). We recommend showing construction and weight on every tag and online listing, so a shopper can see at a glance why two look-alike chains are priced differently.
Polished or diamond-cut
Diamond cutting uses a diamond-tipped tool to cut small, flat facets into the links, so the chain throws light with every movement. The name refers to the tool; the chain contains no stones, and the finish does not change the karat. Diamond-cut chains are made solid, while hollow chains are supplied polished.
Standard lengths for finished chains
Finished chains are made in six standard metric lengths. Inch values are rounded for convenience.
| Length (cm) | Approx. length (in) |
|---|
| 42 cm | 16½ in |
| 45 cm | 17¾ in |
| 50 cm | 19⅝ in |
| 55 cm | 21⅝ in |
| 60 cm | 23⅝ in |
| 65 cm | 25⅝ in |
Bulk gold chain by the foot
Alongside finished chains, we supply bulk gold chain: continuous chain sold by length, for jewelers who cut and finish chain in their own workshop, whether for custom lengths, private label programs or permanent jewelry. In the U.S. this is usually called chain by the foot. We measure and sell bulk chain by the meter (one meter is about 3.28 feet, or 39⅜ inches), so quotes and invoices show metric lengths.
Tell us the style, width, karat, color and total length you need, and our team will confirm which styles are available in bulk, along with pricing and lead time.
Karat stamps and private label
Under the National Gold and Silver Stamping Act, a gold article stamped with a quality mark such as “14K” and shipped across state lines or imported must also carry the name or a registered (or applied-for) trademark of the manufacturer or dealer responsible for it (15 U.S.C. 297). Through our private label service, your brand mark is stamped on the chain next to the karat mark. Tell us which mark should appear before production, and confirm with your own advisers how the rule applies to your business.
What to specify when you order
- Style and construction: solid or hollow, stated on every order line.
- Karat and color.
- Length: one of our standard lengths for finished chains, or total meters for bulk chain; width in millimeters.
- Target weight per piece in grams: the most reliable basis for comparing quotes, especially for hollow chains.
- Finish: polished or diamond-cut.
- Clasp and any private label stamp.
Stock, production and lead times
In-stock chains ship the next day. Made-to-order production takes four to six weeks, and our team confirms the schedule before you commit. A sensible way to launch a chain program is to begin with stock styles and add made-to-order widths or karats once sell-through is clear.
